Barcelona Football Club (in Catalan: Futbol Club Barcelona) is a football club from the city of Barcelona, Spain. The club was founded on November 29, 1899 by a group of Swiss, British and Catalan footballers, led by Joan Gumper. The club has become a prominent Catalan cultural institution, and therefore its motto is “more than a club” (Més que un club). The club’s alumni group is holding its home games at Camp Nou, Europe’s largest stadium, which seats 99,354 seats. The only team in Spanish league history to win eight championships out of 11 seasons.

In addition to the well-known football team, the club also includes a reserve team called Barcelona B, and four other professional teams in other sports: basketball, handball, soccer halls and roller hockey. The club shares Spanish football summit with Real Madrid, and the long-standing sporting rivalry between the two has become something of Spanish football, a rivalry that has sharpened due to major differences in the political positions of both clubs supporters during Franco’s dictatorial reign in Spain. The games between Barcelona and Real are known as “El Classico”. Apart from rivalry with Real Madrid, Barcelona has an urban rivalry with the Espanyol Football Club.

The club is among the leading in Europe. Over the years he has won several trophies for their various incarnations. Five times he won the most important European title, the Champions League, in 1992, 2006, 2009, 2011 and 2015. Many known players have played at the club over the years. In April 2015, Forbes magazine ranked the club second in the world in terms of wealth. [1]
